Support the
1 in 25 Australians living with epilepsy.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to become part of the Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP) Control Group. A study control group consists of volunteers doing the same testing as the study’s epilepsy participants. They play a fundamental role in clinical trials by providing comparative data as a baseline for determining the effectiveness of the study’s testing.

Your participation will help drive new discoveries and future applications of data for epilepsy today and other brain health conditions, tomorrow.

What's involved?

Control group volunteers undergo the same tests as participants who have epilepsy with the exception of a genetics test and follow-up interviews.

Check your eligibility

You can easily check your eligibility to join the AEP below. We will ask you a short series of questions to determine whether this study is right for you.

Online neuropsychology assessment - 120 minutes

During this time you will complete tasks that evaluate your thinking skills including your attention, memory and problem solving.

MRI scan - 90 minutes

During this time you will be asked to respond to visual stimuli including recognising rhyming words and patterns, watch snippets of movies and complete memory tasks.

“I found the whole testing process fascinating. I was anticipating some claustrophobia in the MRI – but didn’t experience any. The whole AEP team made the process easy”

AEP volunteer

"I was very impressed with the staff in MRI, and I enjoyed doing the cognitive testing from home. I would, without a doubt, recommend this project 10/10."

AEP volunteer

"MRI staff were fantastic, they made me feel comfortable. The neuropsychology testing from the comfort of my own home was excellent."
